What should I be doing now?

In recent weeks I have received a range of enquiries from people asking what should they be doing now? Writing reports? Commissioning architects? Seeking funding? Placing orders for abatement plant? The answer is that Cremation Authorities have 8 months remaining in which to decide if they are going to abate, buy in abated cremations or do both! So now is not the time to be doing any of the above! Rather it is a time for gathering as much information from as many different sources as possible, so in some month’s time you can best advise your authority on the most appropriate solution. At the current time no one can advise you of the best solution for your authority, because no one has all the necessary information. We are currently working with our partners to independently identify the real costs of abating or burden sharing.

We as an industry have to abate 50% of cremations; abatement above this level will result in additional costs that will be difficult to justify to either your cremation authority or the bereaved we serve. It is important therefore that decisions are not made in haste, but are made in a measured manner when all the facts are available to you.

Mercury Abatement - THE SEMINAR 28th April 2005

Final preparations are underway for the only seminar that will address the four key questions that must be answered if we are going to make informed decisions. What is mercury abatement? What will manufacturers supply us with? How are we going to fund the purchase of abatement plant? Finally how can CAMEO assist us all to achieve 50% abatement?

Details of the seminar are set out below.

The Federation will be continuing the development of CAMEO in the coming months with its partners, The Cremation Society of Great Britain, the manufactures of cremator and filtration equipment, independent experts in the field of cremation and burden sharing, Government Departments along with various other organisations. Further information notices will be published on the FBCA website at WWW.fbca.org.uk If you should wish to make any comments or require information contact me Brendan_Day@sandwell.gov.uk)
