Research has recently been carried out by Brendan Day on the volume of cremated recovered after cremation and it shows that the minimum volume of 200 cu inches or 3,280 cu cm, recommended by the Federation of British Cremation Authorities (FBCA) does not meet the current industry requirement.
In view of the need to amend the guidance to Cremation Authorities it is proposed to set aside some time at the Joint Burial and Cremation Conference on 19th to 21st September in Torquay to discuss this matter and any problems it may cause to manufacturers of memorials and suppliers of caskets and urns. Provision has been made in the Conference programme for the meeting to be held on Tuesday 20th September immediately following the final paper of the afternoon session and it is hoped that representatives from Cremation Authorities, Manufacturers and Suppliers will be able to participate in the discussions.
