The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) is a fully self supporting statutory authority, managing six cemetery and garden sites (Fremantle, Guildford, Karrakatta, Midland, Pinnaroo and Rockingham) throughout Metropolitan Perth. Our mission is to provide sensitive and dignified facilities and services to meet the needs of the deceased and bereaved and to watch over and protect the rich social history of WA held within the cemeteries under our care.
This role represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced PR and communications professional with a strong customer service focus to join our dynamic senior executive team and contribute to the ongoing growth and development of the organisation. Reporting to the CEO and managing 26 staff this role requires you to direct and lead the Board's Strategic Marketing Plan and ensure excellence in customer service is maintained across the organisation's six sites. You will shape and guide the integration of community activities, events and marketing and be responsible for ensuring client expectations are met. You will be a skilled leader with strong strategic management and planning skills, with demonstrated experience building partnerships to ensure support for the development and implementation of key strategic marketing and customer service strategies.

You will be a team player with a tactful approach towards problem solving. If not already involved in Bereavement Services, you will need a background in a related profession. If you do not hold an appropriate Bereavement Services qualification or working towards one, you must be prepared to study to achieve the ICCM Certificate in Crematorium and Cemetery Management and the Cremator Operations Certificate.
You should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of statutory, regulatory, and key operational issues and the Charter for the Bereaved. You will also need to be IT literate.
The basic week is 37 hours with a requirement to take part in a weekend call out rota for out of hours’ burial cover. A flexi-time scheme is in operation. The role reports directly to the Assistant Director of Leisure Services and as such you will be expected to play an active role in the Leisure Services Management Team. You will be a team player with a tactful approach towards problem solving and a positive attitude towards the provision of high quality services to all sections of the community.
You should have a minimum of five years’ experience in bereavement management and development at an influential level and experience of project management, managing budgets, managing teams of staff to high performance levels and contract management.
With either a degree (or equivalent) or a relevant professional qualification (or over 8 years’ experience), and willing to undergo further learning and development, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation and the Charter for the Bereaved. You will also need to be IT literate.
