The Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities works to promote high professional and ethical standards across burial, cremation and new funerary methods, helping to support confidence in the services provided to bereaved people.
Through its Codes of Practice, guidance, training and inspection processes, the FBCA supports providers in maintaining and developing professional standards. An important part of this work is also helping bereaved families and the wider public understand the standards they should expect and the measures that can provide reassurance at what is often an extremely difficult time.
As part of this ongoing work, the FBCA recently met with Jasmine Beverley to hear about her experience and the work she is doing to help improve reassurance and confidence for bereaved families.
Following her own deeply distressing experience with Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, Jasmine has been campaigning for additional safeguards around the release of cremated remains.
During her meeting with Mike Birkinshaw, CEO of the FBCA, Jasmine shared her thoughts on measures including the use of tamper proof seals and how these could help give families greater confidence and peace of mind.
The FBCA supports the principle of crematoria considering appropriate sealing of cremated remains before they are released to families.
We believe that practical measures which give families greater confidence that cremated remains have been handled appropriately and returned correctly can provide important reassurance at an already difficult time, while helping to maintain trust in the services they receive.
