A Message of Thanks from the Federation’s President

18th June 2020 | News Updates

On behalf of the Federation, in my role as President, I would just like to say a big thank you to the Mangers and staff at all Crematoria and Cemeteries across the UK  for working so hard through the very challenging and difficult circumstances brought about by the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Our colleagues have acted with a high degree of professionalism in delivering our vital services to the Bereaved in a smooth and organised manner at a time when the Coronavirus Act 2020 required swift implementation of the new Legislation as well as organising safe and practical ways for close families to attend Funeral services. It has been more important than ever that everyone works as a team and in this regard Crematorium and Cemetery Managers have been working with their local LRFs.

The FBCA has been working tirelessly with our colleagues across the Funeral sector forging stronger working relationships with our colleagues at the ICCM, APCC and Cremation Society as well as working closely with our Funeral Director colleagues at SAIF and the NAFD and with Government to do our best to ensure that the sector was not overwhelmed by the Pandemic.

Supporting each other is vital too now that we move forward with the easing of lockdown restrictions, more than anything. We need to remain vigilant and must look out for the Health and Safety of the visitors to our sites as well as our staff as greater numbers of people are able to attend services. It is important to be aware too of the possible impact that the Pandemic has had on our staff in terms of their mental health and well-being and I am pleased to learn that many Local Authorities and Private Companies have arranged free and easy access to services that can help in this regard.

These have been and indeed still are exceptional circumstances which have an effect on all of us. With lockdown measures easing it is important that we remain cautious in our approach and are prepared for a second wave. During this time it could be an opportunity for all of our equipment to be fully serviced and for staff to take some important Annual Leave.

Thank you to everyone for the important role that you have played during these very difficult times.

Alan Jose FICCM
President ICCM
